Science Curriculum
Science at Pippins School is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and curiosity from Nursery through to Year 6 . In the Early Years, children explore the natural world through hands-on investigation, observing plants, animals, materials and seasonal changes. As pupils move into Key Stage 1, they develop secure foundations in everyday materials, seasonal changes, plants and animals, including humans. They learn to identify, describe and compare, while beginning to ask questions and make simple observations. In Key Stage 2, learning deepens across a broad range of disciplines including light, rocks, forces, states of matter, sound, electricity, Earth and space, evolution and the human body .
Working scientifically is embedded throughout the curriculum, with extended enquiry units providing opportunities for investigation, pattern seeking, fair testing and data interpretation . Pupils are encouraged to predict, observe, record and explain using accurate scientific vocabulary, building confidence alongside knowledge. By Year 6, children can classify, explain cause and effect, and apply their understanding to more complex concepts such as adaptation, circulation and electrical circuits, preparing them well for secondary science.
