We are looking forwards to a very busy and exciting Summer term ahead!
Summer Term Topics
We are excited to introduce the following curriculum topics to the children for the Summer term:
Sunshine and sunflowers
In the sunshine and sunflowers project your child will explore the local environment to see how it has changed throughout the year. They will grow flowers and vegetables.They will learn about how to care for plants and animals, identifying some different types and will closely observe the life cycle of a butterfly. They will visit a local park to explore the flora and fauna and look for wildlife.They will also learn about how to keep safe in the sun.
Supporting your child at home:
- Grow some quick growing plants together such as salad leaves or cress
- Plan and go on a picnic
- Go on a local walk and talk about changes happening throughout the year
Shadows and Reflections
In the shadows and reflections topic your child will learn about natural phenomena of shadows and reflections. They will explore shadows and find out how they are formed and how they can change shape and size. They will explore how different materials reflect light.
Supporting your child at home
- Find objects around the house in which you can see your reflection
- Draw around shadows and see how the shape and size changes through the day
Big Wide World
In the Big wide world project your child will find out about the world in which they live. They will look at maps and explore different climates and habitats. They will compare life in the U.K with life elsewhere.
Supporting your child at home:
- Use google Earth to look at different places and discuss where you would like to visit
- Talk about and look at pictures of places you have visited
- Talk about different ways to travel
- If you go on holiday send a postcard back to school for the class to share and discuss
Splash
In this project your child will learn about water play. They will have fun learning about different bodies of water and the animals that live in them. Learn how to make ice and have their own ice lollies! They will explore floating and sinking and volume and capacity.They will also visit a lake with a beach and ater park area.
Supporting your child at home.
- Talk about how you use water at home and how important it is to drink water
- Talk about animals that live in the water
- Have fun in the bath, paddling pool, swimming pool or a trip to the sea side.
- Teach your child about staying safe by the water
